YouTuber Faces Backlash Over Actions Toward BLACKPINK’s Jennie

A YouTuber named Potato Turtle has come under severe backlash after posting videos related to BLACKPINK’s Jennie, leading to criticism from viewers and an apology from the creator. The controversy grew after her actions were compared to those of sasaeng fans, a term used for people who intrude into idols’ private lives.

According to the news source, Potato Turtle had been sharing videos centered on her “100 bucket list challenges.” Among them were visits connected to Jennie, including going to OA Entertainment, Jennie’s agency in Seoul, where she rang the doorbell and delivered flowers. She also drew attention for holding up a sign at a concert that read, “Jennie unnie, want to have a cup of coffee?”

Why the Video Drew Strong Criticism

The backlash focused on the way she randomly visited Jennie’s agency in hopes of finding the artist. Many people saw the behavior as crossing a boundary, especially because it involved approaching the agency without a clear personal connection to Jennie. This led to criticism that her actions resembled the behavior of sasaeng fans.

Because of the negative response, the video titled “Having a cup of coffee with Jennie” was made private.

Potato Turtle Issues a Public Apology

On the 14th, Potato Turtle posted an apology on her social media account. She said she sincerely apologized to everyone who felt uncomfortable because of the video and stated that she had carefully read the comments and reflected on her actions.

In her statement, she explained that she was trying to complete a bucket list of 100 things. She said that while some items, such as “seeing the Northern Lights in Iceland,” are achievable, other goals like “having a cup of coffee with Jennie” are realistically difficult. She said she wanted to try something that seemed impossible and believed she could “knock on doors and find my own way.”

Her Explanation About the Jennie Content

Potato Turtle also said she never truly believed that visiting the agency or attending a concert would lead to having coffee with Jennie. She explained that she often refers to overseas content when making videos and that she was inspired by shout-out videos to celebrities abroad. She said the video was made with the sincere intention of expressing her feelings.

Regarding her visit to OA Entertainment, she admitted that she did not realize abruptly showing up and delivering a letter and bouquet could be seen as stalking behavior. She said she wanted to show sincerity by giving the letter and filming the process, but acknowledged that the method was wrong.

She added that she believed she had been too ignorant about idol fan culture and promised to act more carefully in the future.

Apology for the Concert Sign

Potato Turtle also addressed the sign she held up at the concert. She said it was her first time attending a concert and that she lacked understanding of concert culture. She sincerely apologized for holding up the sign in the venue and said she would follow concert etiquette and avoid repeating the mistake.

What This Controversy Highlights

The incident has sparked attention because it involved BLACKPINK’s Jennie, one of the most well-known K-pop idols, and raised concerns about respecting boundaries around artists and their private spaces. The backlash shows how quickly public response can turn when fan-related actions are seen as inappropriate or intrusive.

For now, the controversy remains centered on Potato Turtle’s videos, her visit to Jennie’s agency, and her explanation that she misunderstood idol fan culture. Her apology appears to be an effort to calm the reaction and acknowledge the discomfort caused by her actions.
